Sergei Voitovich has been a partner at Grischenko & Partners since 1993. He is the head of the arbitration practice of the firm. In 1981-1994 he had been an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor at the Kyiv State University, specializing in international economic law. In 1993-1994 Mr. Voitovich advised the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on the investment laws of selected member states of the CIS. In 1996, he was a legal intern at the London law firm Dickson Minto W.S. From 1997 to 2001, Mr. Voitovich was a member of the Chamber of Independent Experts on Foreign Investment at the President of Ukraine, where he participated in four panels as a panel member.
Sergei Voitovich serves as an arbitrator. In 2014 by the Decree of the President of Ukraine Mr. Voitovich was designated to the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). Mr. Voitovich is the arbitrator of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kazakhstan International Arbitration, Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), Riga International Commercial Arbitration Court, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC).
Mr. Voitovich represented Ukraine as a counsel in six multi-million ICSID arbitrations and several non-ICSID investment arbitration cases (SCC, UNCITRAL), two of them under the Energy Charter Treaty. In particular, he acted as a leading counsel in the teams of counsel for the Government of Ukraine which won three famous investment cases Generation Ukraine Inc. v. Ukraine (2000-2003, ICSID), Tokios Tokeles v. Ukraine (2003-2007, ICSID) and Amto v. Ukraine (2005-2008, SCC/ECT). Furthermore, Sergei Voitovich acted as a leading counsel to Ukraine in such known cases as Joseph Lemire v. Ukraine (1998-2000, ICSID Additional Facility), Western NIS Enterprise Fund (2004-2006, ICSID), Alpha Projektholding v. Ukraine (2007-2010, ICSID), Inmaris v. Ukraine (2008-2012, ICSID), Remington v. Ukraine (2009-2011, SCC/ECT), and as the co-counsel to Ukraine in OAO Tatneft v. Ukraine (2008-2014, UNCITRAL).
Sergei Voitovich acted as a counsel to the claimant in the investment dispute under the Energy Charter Treaty Energorynok v. Moldova (2012-2015, SCC).
He also represented international companies in Ukrainian courts, inter alia in the disputes with the State Property Fund of Ukraine, tax administration. Mr. Voitovich assisted foreign counsel to represent Ukrainian businessmen in foreign courts.
Mr. Voitovich is the author of more than 70 professional publications on international law and arbitration. He is the author of two books on international economic law – “The Principles of International Legal Regulation of Interstate Economic Relations” (Kiev, 1988, 129 p., in Russian); “International Economic Organizations in the International Legal Process” (Martinus Nijhoff, 1994, 217 p.). He also co-authored two books on international investment arbitration - “Alexeyev A.G., Voitovich S.A., Grischenko D.I., Shevchuk O.V. The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID): Several Issues of Jurisdiction and Arbitration Procedure” (Kiev, 2005, 303 p., in Russian); “International Investment Arbitration: Certain Tendencies and the Experience of Ukraine. Under the general editorship of S.A.Voitovich" (Kiev, 2012, 307 p., in Russian).

In 2008, by the Edict of the President of Ukraine Mr. Voitovich was conferred the title of “The Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine”.
